Calculating the annual COP of a heat pump

What is the annual COP?

The annual COP is the most important key figure for the efficiency of a heat pump in real operation over a whole year. It describes the ratio of the heat generated to the electrical energy (electricity) consumed over this period.

  • Example: A SPF of 4 means that the heat pump generates an average of 4 kWh of heat energy from 1 kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity.
In other words, it generates four times the quantity of heat compared to its electricity consumption.
