The Alpenschloss Elmau which is steeped in tradition was built 1914 - 1916 during the First World War on the remote plateau between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. At 2713 metres high, the Watzmann in the Berchtesgardener Alps is the second highest mountain massif in Germany . In 1888 a shelter hut was already build for mountain climbers and alpinists at a height of 1930 metres. As part of extensive renovation works, the complete heating system was modernised. When doing so the tiled stoves used until they were replaced with energy-saving radiators from Kermi.
