Splash water tightness

Honestly: How important is pure optics for you?

Water find its way naturally. A physical law which we unfortunately cannot stop. What we can do: using precisely constructed profiles to keep the barriers as high as possible and thus achieve maximum water tightness. So that water splashing out is minimized. If you decide for a puristic solution without a profile, the barrier is omitted and a small amount of water splashing out is unavoidable. In return, you enjoy easy entry without a threshold and elegant optics. As always with Kermi - you decide what is more important for you!

High profile

Unmatched in splash water tightness.

The lower soil profile acts as a barrier against the shower spray hitting the bottom edge of the tray or against any water spray build-up. The higher the profile, the less danger that water can escape outside.

Flat profile

For satisfactory splash water tightness.

Generally speaking, a flat floor sill provides less protection against water spray escaping from the enclosure. Kermi compensates for this with a specially coordinated, systematic arrangement of the sill, the sealing strip, and the glass panel. This allows slim profiles and satisfactory splash water tightness - depending on the floor sill height - to be largely harmonized.

No profile

With a significant limitation of the watertightness.

If there is no "profile barrier" or floor sill at the bottom of the enclosure, water can escape easily. So an off-floor shower enclosure can only be an exclusive splash guard which cannot meet the highest demands for watertightness.

A small chrome plated floor sill is always supplied with every shower enclosure without a base which can be installed to improve watertightness.

Kindly note!

  • Kermi shower enclosures are intended for installation on a shower tray or on a Kermi wet floor system. If installed in any other use, make sure that the shower area is correspondingly comparable
(sealing for the floor screed, slopes, etc.)!
  • In case of an installation on the joint, please make sure that it is a maintenance free and watertight joint.
  • If the shower enclosure is installed off-floor, all necessary steps must be taken on-site to prevent the danger of slipping.
  • Overall look and construction influence the function.
  • A higher price does not automatically mean more watertightness.

Kermi shower enclosures with one or two droplet symbols comply with EN 14428 and TÜV in terms of watertightness:

During the testing process, shower enclosures must provide protection against splashing water. A few, small water drops outside the shower enclosure are acceptable. Tests are carried out under conditions where the shower tray and shower enclosure have been installed as per the regulations or the manufacturers instructions. The shower enclosure are tested with warm water, maximum 38 °C, with 11 liters of water per minute. Test B follows Test A.

Test A: Water is splashed on the shower enclosures at an angle of 90° from a distance of 30 cm for one minute, whereas the splash zone begins 30 cm from above and below.

Test B: Floor in the showering area is splashed from a height of 1.90 meters and at a distance of 30 cm from the middle of the shower door for three minutes.
